It brings us grief to
learn that Martinus Yohamme, the KNPB Chairman in Sorong who two days ago we
reported was missing, has been found dead after suspected members of the
Indonesian security forces kidnapped and murdered him.
His body was found in
the Sorong General Hospital 5 days after anyone had reported seeing him.We are
still waiting for more information of what exactly happened.
Martinus was an
active leader and was giving a press conference the day before he was
kidnapped.
He condemned the
Indonesian occupation of West Papua and issued a statement refusing the
Indonesian President in West Papua on the same day the President was visiting
the local area.
Martinus and the KNPB
said they rejected illegal logging, theft and damage of ecosystems in West
Papua because the natural resources belong to the Papuan people.
We are full of
sadness to hear of his murder and we send our sincerest condolences and
sympathy with his family who never go the chance to see him in a Free West
Papua.
It is outrageous that
the Indonesian government thinks it can freely jail journalists and murder
Papuans just for telling the truth of what is happening in West Papua.
We will not let the
truth be covered up in West Papua.
Rest in Peace brother
Martinus Yohamme, with your spirit, we will continue to campaign until West
Papua is finally free.
